Under 18s into Grand Final
Saturday, 28 August 2010 22:19

Our Under 18 team showed some real grit and at times class, to turnaround a 90 point deficit against Oakleigh in their only other meeting this season, to run out impressive winners by 27 points.

After a tightish first half, where Rupo perhaps squandered some opportunities up forward, the team turned up the heat, and attack at the ball and denied Oakleigh the ball. They also used the ball much better than in the first half. Whilst Rupo were turning taking contol up forward, it was due in large part to a tight and disciplined defence, giving very little away.

A GREAT ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE!

For match scores, goal kickers and better players.

Mixed results for Rupo's Junior Premiership Assault
Sunday, 22 August 2010 11:28

On a day perfect for football, with stiffish breeze prevailing at Diggers Rest and at Rupo, our junior teams played some great footy with mixed results.

First up our Under 10 Red team fell 2 points short in their quest to win the premiership.

In what was a close game all day, Kilmore scored 2 quick goals in the final term to give them a match winning lead. Rupo got 1 goal back, but the siren beat them.

Final scores : Rupertswood 5.0.30 def by Kilmore 5.2.32

Next to take the spotlight were our Under 12 White team. They took on Melton, and Melton jumped them early. Rupo gradually worked their way on top in the middle part of the game, but in true grand final tradition, Melton found some more to peg the lead back to 1 point. The team steadied for a fantastic 8 point victory.

Final Scores : Rupertswood 6.6.42 defeating Melton 5.4.34

Our Under 16 Whites took on the old enemy at Diggers Rest. In what was a closely fought game, both sides at different times held sway during the game. Rupo got out to an early lead, with the aid of the breeze. Sunbury hit back and took an 11 point lead into the main break. We didn't take full advantage of the breeze in the 3rd and things looked ominous at 3/4 time. Then the team played what can only be described as an awesome last quarter, fighting and scrapping and at times demonstrating some great team footy, worked their way in front and held a slender lead, until 10 seconds to go, when after a marking contest, Sunbury desperately threw a boot out on the goal line, to boot home the winner. A 2 point HEARTBREAK!

Final Scores Rupertwsood 6.12.48 def by Sunbury 7.8.50

Our last team to do battle, was our Under 16 Reds. They too played Melton at home, and built an early lead, taking a 2 goal advantage into quarter time. Although displaying superior skills during the middle part of the game, they couldn't convert on the scoreboard. Then seemingly out of nowhere, it all fell into place and the scoreboard attendants had trouble keeping up. Our second premiership for the day!

Final scores : Rupertswood 5.9.39 defeating Melton 3.7.25
